The Start of An Endless Melissa Shoe Lemming

Guest post by Sophie from BeautyGizmo.com

melissa glam

Melissa is love.

I honestly have never appreciated flats because my boss from L’Oreal during my OJT days let me be always reminded that high heels give a woman a boost of confidence, and imagine running in high heels – is tres sexy.

I’ve been sporting high heeled shoes from December last year to late March when my feet started to complain on me. I’m the type of person who walks a lot, and that just signals blister-feast. Wanting to take a little break from it all, I started to look for a nice, decent, classic, but durable flats.

Say hello to my Melissa Glam in Black Lace

The Melissa brand has been on my radar since last year, because they were made of plastic . It had an instant cult following as it was offered at stores since July last year. I’ve tried the Melissa Glam in Red Lace, which design is a collaboration with designer Alexandre Herchcovitch. It’s a pointed flat, transparent adorned with red lace, and I never forgot about it when I first tried it on. It was cute, it was sexy, and I could wear it both for work and lazy days when I just want to stroll all day long, looking all fabulous. When it was time for me to decide that I wanted that in my shoe closet, alas, it was already nowhere in sight, and not offered anymore in any store. Sniff. I settled for Melissa Glam in Black Lace.

Melissa Glam in Black Lace isn’t bad at all as well – it was in classic black and it would just never run out of style,I believe. I’ve been wearing it, pairing it with miniskirts, and jeans, and they just look so good! And yes, they smell so good too! There is not a chance of the shoes catching some odor if we ovewalk, as what we fear closed shoes might be after some uses, because they are perpetually smelling like candy! Oh, love!

My purchase of Melissa Glam in Black Lace is not the end of my Melissa shopping spree, I promise you. I’ve worn my pair a lot of times and it just never let me down. So comfortable, so chic. Accompanying my in-denial endless search for the Melissa Glam Lace in Red, are my plans to go abroad to find more Melissa designs and buy them at a lower price, as they say they are turn out lower in Singapore!

Hello, I’m Sasha’s Admirer.

orange-espadrilles

My Orange Espadrilles!

No, this isn’t meant to be a post at DatingDames, one of Sasha’s blogs, this is a post on how I actually admire Sasha’s taste in the name of fashion, that’s why I’ve always visited Tops2Bottoms for the latest fashion trends, her personal picks, and most of all, what she shopped for the day.

I’m Sophie, and I’m a beauty blogger for BeautyGizmo.com, under the B5Media Beauty & Style Channel. For a long time I’ve always obsessed about makeup and skin care and hiding myself in black ensembles. Safe black classic top. Bootleg jeans. Black kitten heel sandals. Everything safe. Everything boring.

The reason I’m guest blogging for the meantime is that a few months ( well, not a few, I’m quite a stubborn gal to convert! ) of knowing and hanging out with Sasha, she managed to transform my drab fashion taste into something more vivid – I’ve been wearing orange espadrilles, I’ve been buying accessories, she’s helped me buy a silk wrap that I could try to wear, and so much more. I know, I’m still wearing black, but she added some “color” in my wardrobe!

I would always see her during beauty events as she is also a beauty blogger, and well, she almost never wears black and manages to pull everything so perfectly, always making me think, “how did she think of putting these together?”

Apparently, some have innate talent in the fashion department. I’m a willing learner. A slow learner. But I’m learning, I’m learning new things everyday.

Buttons, Sun Dresses and Black

Black Button Front Sun Dress, Topshop | Tops 2 Bottoms, Street Fashion
Image: topshop.com

When I saw this over at Topshop, it quickly reminded me of the Stripe Cotton Sundress I featured a while back. They really do look similar, yea? But of course, this one’s noticeably black but the button detail is right about the same as the other one.

This dress is primarily a Sun dress but I reckon it can very well pass as an LBD (little black dress), don’t you agree? I love the fullness of the skirt and the thin straps holding up low bustier. Of course, I’m not forgetting the button detail.

I reckon I already mentioned how a black dress can also be worn at any time of the day. The one I recently bought works cuz of the very thin fabric. As for this one, the design is so much like a typical sun dress, it’s just the somber colour that makes it look a lot more formal than usual. It’s perfect for the not-so-cheerful days.

What do you guys think of it? I actually love it. It’ll be perfect for those days you’d want to feel feminine, comfortable and dressy enough to make things easy for the outfit to transition into something acceptable for night time shindigs.

Genesis Footloose in Sand, Sketchers

Men’s Genesis Footloose in Sand, Sketchers | Tops 2 Bottoms, Street Fashion

Urban style is sometimes difficult to peg. Sometimes, it’s masked by a cosmopolitan flair and mistaken for boho. What then ought to be considered a true urban style? For now, I’m still seeking the right description that will help define it for everyone. Though, I’m not saying it that we can’t break it down to the proper elements that will help reach that definition.

I actually find it easier to see it in men’s footwear. Believe it or not, it wasn’t by chance did I find the pair of shoes pictured above. I learned of its existence through my brother who had asked for a bit of help from me while he was shopping in US a while back. He showed me this photo of Sketchers’ Men’s Genesis Footloose in Sand (colour) and, yes, it got my vote of approval. I loved it! I actually asked if my boyfriend wanted a pair himself and I’m still waiting on his answer.

The pair does make me think that it has the elements that makes an item fit to be classified as urban. It’s very stylish and yet it’s not as dressy.

My brother did end up buying a pair for $74. Seeing it in person makes me think that it’s worth every penny. It looks sturdy and very fashionable. I reckon I should take a photo of him next time he wears it so I can show you guys. That is if he lets me post his photo online, particularly on a fashion blog. LOL.

What do you guys think of the shoes? Urban or not?

I want this Little Loser

Miss Spoiled Brat, David & Goliath | Tops 2 Bottoms, Street Fashion

Another tee that’s on my radar is this little Miss Spoiled Brat of David & Goliath. Twas funny that when I arrived at the Little Losers event and saw a bunch of the Little Loser shirts pinned on the makeshift clothes line prop, their way of hanging out with the crowd, I quickly scanned the selection and singled her out. Brad Geiser of GeiserMaclang even amusingly told me that I’ve managed to find the t shirt out of the lot when he heard me claim ownership of the little Miss. Dunno if that meant he agrees that I am indeed a spoiled brat. A little late for a retort. Heh. Ah, well.

It seems that my t shirt fixation is far from being cured. Esp when you’re presented with choices like these. Ya think that with all the shirts I’ve managed to bring home the past few weeks, with emphasis on the sequined ZARA shirt, I’d be utterly content, eh? Thank goodness for the GC and discount cards! Yay!

SHOP: David & Goliath

If you enjoy tongue-in-cheek one-liners and comical imagery printed on the t shirt your sporting, well, Todd Goldman has a wide selection ready for your discerning eye and taste over at David & Goliath. He founded this company back in 2000, which began with a modest 30-page catalog compiled while he was still in Uni that grew into a popular t shirt brand.

David & Goliath is known for slogans like “Only Cool Kids Go to Rehab”, “I’m With Stupid”, “Rock is Dead, Long Live Paper and Scissors”, and a personal favourite —

T2B Shopping: Sequined Shirt, ZARA

ZARA, Baby I Like That Shirt

I can be this persistent when it comes to getting something that I want. I won’t stop until I get exactly what I want. I will be resourceful. I’ll be patient. I’ll work hard to get that thing that I’ve always wanted.

Of course, in this case, I’m talking about wanting to own a black & white shirt, more particularly this white shirt with sequin accents on the letters that read, “BABY I LIKE THAT”. Oh, yea baby. I do like that. LOL.

Check out the design after the fold!

I Heart Daisy Duck

MANGO Daisy Duck T Shirt | Tops 2 Bottoms, Street Fashion
Image: mango.com

In my search for the elusive Black & White T Shirt, I came across this truly adorable Daisy Duck Tee over at a local Mango store. I can’t really explain why I keep coming back just to hold this shirt up, study it, and hold it against me again and again but I always end up putting back on the rack. Silly, eh?

I actually want this t shirt and a pair of flare MNG Jeans.

I don’t know. I have this strong feeling that I’m actually going back there later and finally buy it. Like my new Dalmatian pet tee isn’t good enough, eh? (Just working on building a wider t shirt collection, hehe) What do you guys think? How much are you willing to wager if this purchase will ever come to pass? Hehe.

Stripe Cotton Sundress

Stripe Cotton Sundress, Topshop | Tops 2 Bottoms, Street Fashion
Image: topshop.com

The idea of spending days in this heat pushes me to find ways to clothe myself with lighter and more comfortable garments. Dresses are a good alternative for more feminine moods esp when you’re simply going off gallivanting to some mall for a bit of AC time. Hehe.

I love the button accent on this Stripe Cotton Sundress I saw over at Topshop. It’s perfect for casual days wherein you can just wear it with flip-flops or ballerina flats. It looks very fresh and young. I reckon it’s a fitting summer dress. It’s a good way to show off that tan you’ve managed to get from all your beach trips.

Now, I can’t help but think whether if another trip to the nearest Topshop store and getting me a sundress is not such a bad idea. Oh, the pains of being too hooked on fashion. My wallet suffers. Pah. I must practice self-restraint. Weh.

What about you guys? Do you have any more ideas for a great summer outfit?

Maxi Dresses in Purple, Pink & Prints

MANGO Maxi Dress, Chelsea & Farrah | Tops 2 Bottoms, Street Fashion
Image: mango.com

It’s not too late to go grab yourself a maxi dress or two and here are a couple of ideas courtesy of MANGO. It’s quite obvious I’m currently “window shopping” there, eh? Can’t help it since there’s a sale going on. LOL. Yea, they’re slashing off prices and it’s not limited to jeans alone. Great news, yea?

I was actually at a MANGO store yesterday and was looking into getting a pair of jeans myself. I’m still mulling over a getting a pair in flares or bootcut. I also liked a cropped pair with elasticised hem but it wasn’t on sale. So, till I make up my mind, I’m holding off with the jeans shopping.

Anyway, I spotted Chelsea (pictured on the left) and was smitten. She looked gorgeous in person. Yes. The photo doesn’t do her justice, I tell ‘ya. She’s in purple with some other colours combined in prints and patterns. That’s why I’m letting you guys know about her. Meanwhile, I stumbled upon Farrah (pictured on right) online. She’s in dusty pink with a bit more bolder prints and pattern combination. She’s currently on sale! Original price is $189 but now you can get her for only $93.99. Chelsea is priced at $99.
