Wear Gauchos, Amiga!

by Sasha Manuel on December 1st, 2005

GauchosIs it even spanish, eh? I’m not really sure. Hehehe. It probably sounds like it to me because of the ch sound. Oh, well.

These Gauchos are somewhat related to the Crop Cigarette Pant that I blogged about not too long ago. You think? I think they are. Haha! I just had to feature these lovely bottoms! As you can see on the photos on the right of your screen, Guachos certainly make a definite statement in fashion, don’t they? I’m loving it! Whoever designed them, Kudos to you!

Gauchos are so versatile due to the fact that it’s like a skirt, a pant, and a short or crop pant. You can wear it to the office or even just to the supermarket, depending on how you wear it, that is. Hehe.

I like the idea that you can wear it with:

  • flat sandals,
  • the ballerina flat shoes,
  • tall boots and,
  • stilletos, of course.

It’s great to wear with:

  • simple tanks and camis,
  • camisoles,
  • fitted tops and jackets,
  • oversized sweater tops,
  • and panel tops.

If you don’t agree with me, you can check a related article,
How to Wear Gauchos, found in Women’s Fashion at About.Com and see what she has to say about it.

Gauchos featured in the photos are as follows:

    1. Zinc Corduroy Gaucho Pants
    2. 7 For All Mankind “Camilla” Rigid Gauchos
    3. BCBG Maz Azria Tweed Gaucho Pants
    4. Laundry by Shelli Segal Pinstripe Walking Shorts
    5. Marc by Marc Jacobs “Pin-Up” Rigid Denim Gauchos

All are available here.

°Thanks to Nordstrom!

Hi, Kristen! I found it last December in Nordstrom. The item may not be available now. You can chat with their customer service over at their website to inquire. I hope that helps. :)

    Hello Ladies,

    Spanish speaker writing….

Gauchos is a Spanish word, but its origins are probably a mixture of Arabic and Spanish. It refers specifically to the cowboys found in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and some parts of Brasil.

The pants we see today are similar or based on the concept of the pants the ‘gauchos’ wear on their daily activities.

Care should be taken when typing, guacho– as it appears above– is a type of minced food in some parts of Central America, sort of a runny rice porridge to which veggies and meats have been added.

Enough about the origin of words! I agree these pants are great. I guess the key is to play with the proper length to fit your body. If you are very tall, keep note of them not being too short, and vice versa.

I personally think they look a bit dumpy when worn with flats…… but that could change if you are 5′9″ and taller.

[…] Though, it’s not part of my list. I thought I’d take a quick break from it to feature a style idea fit for this day. Why this top, you ask? Well, I reckon it’s casual and comfortable yet maintains a certain stylish flare. It is still parisian anyway. I reckon it’ll work with gauchos or bermuda shorts. It can work with short skirts — you can wear denim minis with leggings — and those cute shorts, too! Also, I can imagine it with tapered jeans. Important thing, though, is to wear it with flats like this one I also found over at Topshop, their open waisted patent pump. […]
