Raiding Shai’s Closet
I’m raiding the closet of b5media’s very own, Shai Coggins. She’s one of the four directors of what is one of the largest blogging networks [if not the largest!] right now. She also happens to be the Weblog guru over at About.Com, a psychologist, an artist, a published writer, a wife and a mum to my gorgeous 2-year old nephew. Yea, I’m her proud sister. Teeheehee.
Shai has always had an inclination toward fashion and it shows in her choice of clothes. So, I made her a target of my Random Closet Raids. I’m letting you in on what I learned when I bugged her with some questions about clothes, shopping … well, about fashion in general.
Describing her personal style, it’s eclectic. Her own words, which I happen to agree to. Yea, you can even say it’s random. She never sticks to one particular style. She admits to letting instinct guide her in her shopping. So, whenever she gets the time to go out and shop, which wasn’t often, mind you, [that’s probably why she said that she often just browse through junk mail to “window shop”] it’s the sight of tops that makes her look into a particular boutique further. Uh, well — unless it were shoes that she has set her heart on in buying, that is.
When I looked through her wardrobe, I found a couple of notable items that she owns.

Jackets. She has grown a good collection of cardigans, athletic and fitted jackets and coats. Shai admits to having taken a liking to one particular pink fitted jacket of hers.
Camisoles. I noticed that she has acquired a number of camis that vary in colours, fabrics, and designs. My favourite among the camis is the one she is wearing in the top-most photo. And yea, the one in the other image, too.
Among her clothes her current favourites are the pair of 3-year old Her Bench blue bootleg jeans I gave her since she likes it so much, the blue printed Camisole, a brown spaghetti strap tiered dress she bought in Singapore and the jacket I mentioned earlier.
Another thing that I noticed is her clothes are in different shades of her favourite colours, which are: blue, pink, purple and of course, the browns and the blacks.
She loves dressing up for special occasions but is comfortable wearing just a pair of capri, a tee and trainers, or a skirt, a cami and flipflops on a day out with her family. She can go out au naturale or without make-up but will always blow dry her hair. She loves her hair that way, you see. Teehee.
She dons a more professional look nowadays since she is working but she always adds a touch of individuality in each outfit. Her colleagues had expressed to her that they always look forward to what she’ll be wearing next, it’s the day’s highlight. This admission only made my sister laugh. Well, it is funny, right? Sweet but still funny.
She loves accessories and makes her own as well so it’s quite certain that no one else will be wearing the same thing. Hahaha. She’s attached to necklaces and right now, it’s the long, multi-strand ones that she prefers. She collects earrings and wears watches, which sometimes, matches her entire outfit!
And then, the shoes. Her favourite is her tall, black boots. Helloooo. She bought it from Paris! Yea, I made it a point that I have a photo of it so you can go check it. She finds it embarrassing sometimes when people come up tp her and ask where she bought it. Ack. I’d be floored!
Her most recent acquisitions are shoes [which I also happen to love!], racer back tank, and the belt you can see in one of the images. Still on her wish list are: baby tee with “I’ll know it when I see it” design and cuffed shorts.
Shai enjoys fashion as much as the next girl. She has established her own style and is comfortable with it, which is actually admirable for some often find themselves lost in terms of personal style. I’m glad it shows in her own style that she is having fun and is comfortable with expressing her own individuality.
I guess being a fashionista is in the genes, eh?

On Sisters, Blogs, and Being a Fashionista…
A few months ago, I encouraged my sister to follow her love of fashion and growing interest in blogging by buying a domain name for her and setting up her very own fashion blog in my server. That was how Tops2Bottoms.com was born (around November 2005)…

While I do get comments (both the positive and the teasing types) about my outfits at work, only ONE person said something about “looking forward” to what I was going to wear next. And, I think she said it because she’s always been such a nice and sweet person to me! :-D
And, the reason I get embarrassed about the boots is because I don’t want people to think that I’m showing off or bragging or anything like that. Especially because sometimes, I end up with an outfit that had been put together from different countries. Yikes.

Sis: I didn’t mean to exaggerate.. Hahaha. I guess I heard wrong. :p But still you wouldn’t know! There might just be more than one, HE just might be a little shy in letting you know. Hehehe.
I totally understand about that bit about not wanting to brag. But it’s just something you can’t help, right? I mean, you do shop in different countries! Hahaha. And that’s another info about this girl who doesn’t have time to shop. Heh. :D

He? What he? I am a married woman with a child, thank you. :-D
And what do you mean it’s something I can’t help? I can’t help bragging? Eeeks. Of course, I can. :-P Hehehe.

MEN who’s crushing on a married woman! Hahaha. :D
Not bragging! The fact that you are able to put together an outfit using items from different countries! Me envious. Hehehe. Mine are only from Australia, Singapore, Bangkok or the US — plus of course from our native country. Pfft.
