The Manolo Blahnik Experience

by Sasha Manuel on March 22nd, 2007

Iya's Manolo BlahnikMost bloggers who went to the recent Palm Trēo 750 Philippines Launch Event wrote about their first impressions on all the smartphones, PDAs or whatever gadgets they were able to get their techie hands on. As for me, I may be a budding geek, but I remain a fashionista at heart that’s why I’m here writing about my close encounter (and first impressions, perhaps?) with a pair of shoes.

Iya Yotoko, Studio 23’s Digital Tour host, is the owner of the oh-so-gorgeous black patent leather pumps by the famous Spanish designer, Manolo Blahnik, made even more popular by Sarah Jessica Parker in the HBO mini-series, Sex & the City.

“They’re comfortable!” Iya happily shared. You have to see the height and note the pointy design of the pair, for a normal person, it would seem that it’s anything but comfortable. I own a pair of Janylin pointy stilleto pumps and all I can say is it can be cumbersome to wear after long periods of time esp when I’ve been walking in them at great distances. Gawd. However, she said that her Manolos are still comfortable even when she’s been busy hosting the event the entire night.

When I asked where she got the pair, she told me that — being her geeky self — she found it on eBay! And she bought it at a great deal, nonetheless! Wondering how great? She got the Manolos for only US$300! Brand new! I was floored! I know they normally cost around US$500 at a minimum and most are over a thousand dollars per pair! Isn’t she one lucky woman?!

I then proceeded to wipe the drool that threatened to flood the floor of the club and fan myself to keep myself from fainting with envy.

Ack. I want a pair of my own!

I guess that’s what a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes can do to a fashionista. ;)
