Random Closet Raid: Christa Jean of Petite Fashionista
It’s been quite a while since I last raided a closet and it’s such a treat that finding an opportunity to do so again allowed me to get to know the Petite Fashionista herself, Christa Jean. Christa is the blogger behind the stylish niche blog, Petite Fashionista (www.PetiteFashionista.com), which caters to women under 5′4, offering her styling services online by highlighting everything that makes styling petites fun and fabulous. Being a petite lady at 5′2, and a relatively successful career as a private stylist — helping women in need of one-time makeovers to complete wardrobe overhauls — Christa is undoubtedly a Petite Fashion Specialist since I reckon she has had experience to back her.
“I come from a long line of petite women, so I’m on speed dial for ‘what to wear’. Shopping, writing, internet research, combing through magazines, networking with companies, attending fashion shows and product launches, and sponsoring events is how I keep on pulse of the latest petite fashion buzz. I’m currently launching a small collection of clothing for petites’, called Petite FAB by Christa Jean.”
I’m glad she took some time off to answer my long list of questions. (Thanks, Christa!) And here’s some tidbits I learned about her personal style.

Christa describes her style as “Flirty Femme”. Her love for dresses, ruffles, pink, lace and all things girl-y make up a very feminine look to her usual outfits. However, she admits to indulging in some fashion accessory that will spice up an outfit to tone down the sweetness and add that flirty feel to the whole look. She likens her personal style as a mix between Charlotte and Carrie of Sex and the City.

It’s Vintage Glam, particularly the 60s fashion era that catches Christa’s fancy. “I look back at magazines from the 60’s because it was my favorite time in fashion. I love the sex kitten look, with the big lashes and dresses paired with boots.” She adds that there are some celebrities she looks to for style inspiration and they are; Twiggy, Rachel Bilson, Eva Longoria, Reese Witherspoon, and Nicole Richie.
I reckon Christa is a fashionista after my own heart. Why? Because she loves dresses, too! She tells me that if I physically raid her closet, I’ll find tonnes of dresses. But like the rest of the fashionistas out there, I’ll also find jeans, which I won’t be surprised. There are also dress pants, skirts, Juicy Couture tees, Velvet tees and Lululemon yoga pants. She describes her closet, “It’s a flirty girls’ wardrobe with a preppy twist.”
Her current favourites are tights, boots and dresses. Very grunge fashion, me thinks. On her must-have list are a wrap dress, great bum jeans, comfortable heels, knee boots, sparkly stud earrings or gold hoops, a comfy button up knit sweater, a fitted jacket, a white dress shirt, black pinstriped wide leg dress pants, a hand bag (not black), and a little black dress (quite understandable!). Whew. Still quite a bit of a list, I must say. But then again, the list can go on and on and on. I should know! Gah.
Moving on to the topic of shopping, shops should definitely keep an eye out for Christa! When she’s out there, her full intention is to buy and not simply to window shop. And, of course, like most if not all, Christa prefers shopping at a bargain, getting her money’s worth! I’m all for that! But she does appreciate certain designer brands like Anna Sui, Vera Wang, Juicy Couture, H&M, Forever 21, Joe’s Jeans, but she also owns a lot of dresses that are either vintage or found in an Asian mall or market.
An adorable style tidbit about Christa is her favourite top and bottom, which best classifies her style in a nutshell. One was sexy and the other preppy. Top is a button down Polo Ralph Lauren shirt, which she describes as cool, comfortable and classy, and the bottom is a pair of black Guess dress pants, which she always wore for three years when she was in high school. What’s adorable about it is that she admits that those two items would have never have gone together if they existed in her wardrobe at the same time. Finally, still on her wish list is a Chanel quilted chain bag in bright pink. Oh, wow. Pink! Definitely girly. Hehe.

Wow, I had fun go through those stylish bits of information. Makes me feel like I did go through a fashionista’s mind and closet! I certainly got this feeling that Christa has a solid taste for her personal style. She knows what she wants and what will look good on her. I’m looking forward to checking out her very own collection, Petite FAB by Christa Jean.
I hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I did!
