Tops 2 Bottoms Gets Some Airtime

Early this month, I received an interview invite from Yonina Chan, one of the editors in Manila Bulletin, Fashion & Lifestyle Section. Manila Bulletin is one of the major broadsheets in the country, distributed nationwide. She told me she was writing an article on local fashion blogs. So, we got together one day and talked about fashion blogs and the whole problogging thing. She’s really cool, with a good fashion sense herself, and very down-to-earth. I love people like those, don’t you?

Here’s a short bit:

“Sasha Manuel, on the other hand, started early on as a problogger. While she had started her site, Tops 2 Bottoms, in late 2005 as a personal fashion blog, it was absorbed in early 2006 by the Toronto-based company b5media.com, when they merged with About Weblogs.com, the company owned by Manuel’s sister.

As Tops 2 Bottoms focused more on the global fashion scene (as seen through an Asian perspective), Manuel later put up Style Manila, her “personal” fashion blog, where she’d concentrated on the happenings in Philippine fashion.” — Shout outs to style, Manila Bulletin, 06 April 2008

I was a bit surprised that it turned into a two-part article.

Here’s another bit on the second article.

“”There are also local public relations companies that are actively inviting bloggers to launches and events,” adds Sasha Manuel of Tops 2 Bottoms. “The attention for blogs is definitely growing past that of the personal diary-like sites.”

Then there’s professional blogging companies, which pay bloggers to maintain blogs, “I actually write for several blogs owned by b5media.com,” Manuel explains. “There’s an Asian beauty blog called Beauty Bento Box, a dating blog and an Olympics blog… This is actually what I do for a living.”" — The New Style Source, Manila Bulletin, 13 April 2008.
