Working with Wrap Dresses

It’s been a while since I last talked about outfit ideas fit for the office environment. Being out of work a freelancer for the past two years or so, has made me a whole lot more casual in terms of dressing up. Pah. Who am I kidding? Even when I was tied to a desk, I’ve never been known as your conventional dresser. I’ve managed to skip the usual stuffy office outfits and veered more into the unconventional. Call me free-spirited. Heh.
Anyway.
As I was perusing the Old Navy website, I chanced upon these adorable Tie-Front Wrap Dresses and I immediately thought that they’d be a great outfit alternative for office settings. It still maintains a professional look, won’t necessarily be classified as a power suit (cuz it’s not a suit, heh) but will allow women employees to keep a certain amount of formality without sacrificing style. Of course, this will require the right accessories and footwear but I’m sure a lot of you will easily pick up what will work best.
I’d recommend keeping jewelries or ear/neck/arm accessories at a minimum and wearing heels, may it be stiletto sandals or pumps. Height will help in creating a more formal feel to the outfit. Flats can work but will cause the look to go on the casual side.
Some may cringe at the idea of wearing bold, summer-y colours and prints but like I said, minimising the accessories will help create and maintain the professional look. Again, the shoes will play a huge role in achieving this look. But if the colour or print is really bothering you, you can opt for the dark, plain colours and prints. Better to be comfortable with what you’re wearing. It helps with your confidence.
However, nothing beats a power suit but, sometimes, it’s great to wear something as fun as a wrap dress to work, yea? Working women ought to be given a chance to express themselves through their outfits, too. This will help create a better image for keeping a desk job. Regardless of what your designation is or whether you work in a corner office or in a cubicle, women shouldn’t come to work looking like drabs, right?
